To those acquainted to the haunting nature of the mountain ridge she calls home, Ambrosia is regarded as the most frightening monster for miles.
But this is not surprising. Not for a Blackwood.
Like the rest of her infamous kin, she is addressed with a royal title despite not actually being royalty. Many know her as the 'Queen of Cryptids.'
She's mysterious, has four iron fists, and isn't afraid to bear her teeth to get her way. As of late, she's found herself bearing her teeth more and more.

Like his mother, he is rumored to be cruel and fearsome, and that any who see his face are left traumatized by fear.
However, he has been absent for the longest time. This, of course, only aids in his mystery.

In recent times, both witches and alchemists have become quite rare; even more so than monsters have.

🌗 Witches ----------------------------

Witches are humans who are naturally born with their magical abilities, and thus, can find their magic from within.
It usually takes years for a witch's mystic capabilities to become evident, and they tend to be more uncontrollable compared to that of a seasoned witch.
Usually, young witches will apprentice under older, much more skilled witches.
As the ability to use magic is passed down from generation to generation, witch parents typically are the ones to fill these shoes.
There are many different types of witches with different "schools" of magic. A witch cannot switch schools.
When a witch finds their spark, what gives their power purpose, they will give themselves a title (ex. The Sunflower Witch, The Berry Witch). Finding this calling may take months, or even years!
Most witches have an oddity in their appearances that elude to their magic; unnatural hair colors, eye colors, or markings along their skin are common signs that someone may be a witch.Some witches may use special instruments or reagents, such as wands or potions to enhance their ease with casting spells.
However, for a naturally born witch, these are entirely unnecessary! A skilled witch is perfectly proficient with only their bare hands.
Common with witches are spellbooks; while a witch is more than capable of casting spells from memory, spellbooks are highly valued family heirlooms. When a witch discovers something new, they will write down their findings for future generations to look back on.
Some witches may have a familiar; an animal companion to accompany them in their craft. Familiars are animals who have been imbued with witch magic to serve a specific purpose for their witch masters.

Unlike witches, alchemists are not born with the natural ability to use magic. For all intents and purposes, alchemists are the average human being.But with intense study, discipline, and the right reagents, magic can harnessed from the natural world and repurposed by those who, fittingly, call themselves alchemists.Alchemists must be well-read to know just what objects have just what magic they need. Through study and experimentation, they can find ways to draw out the inert magics of their reagents to reproduce desired spells and effects.Witches are typically regarded as more "powerful" than alchemists, as their powers comes from within.
But because of the intense knowhow alchemists must have, an alchemist may in fact be more knowledgeable than a witch when it comes to certain spells or magic types.
Not only this, but an alchemist is not limited in their schools of magic; so long as they have the right knowledge and materials, an alchemist can harness any type of magic they please.
Alchemists and witches have been close allies throughout history, helping one another with their respective crafts.
There are many types of reagents an alchemist may use. These may be plants, minerals, animals, and even colors! A skilled alchemist can draw out the magic in most anything.

🌗 Magic Schools -----------------------

🐾 Fauna: This type of magic derives from the animals of the world. Whether they dwell on land, swim in the water, or soar through the air, all creatures have an innate magic to them. Witches of the fauna variety may have an improved connection to their familiars and the ability to charm beasts. Transmorphing spells come naturally to them.🌿 Flora: This type of magic derives from the plants and fungi of the world. They can form strong, emotional connections to the plants around them, which can be used for a variety of purposes. They can create charms, summon vines, and breathe life into plants to create ents. Additionally, flora witches are known for their quick mending of physical wounds. Plant growth spells and healing spells come naturally to them.🌋 Terra: This type of mgic derives from the elements. A terra witch is bonded to the Earth itself, and can wield its elements. A terra witch may be able move water, summon storms, or create fire from thin air. Weather spells come naturally to them, and they have a fondness for crystals.🔮 Arcana: This type of magic is seen as otherwordly. Not seeming to derive from any part of the natural world, very little is known about this type of magic compared to others. Even arcana witches are known to astutely study the cosmic nature of their magic to gain a better understanding of it. Certain celestial alignments may have an affect on their powers, and they can further amplify certain abilities through the use of sigils. They can alter gravity, create portals/rifts, peak into the past and future, and transform energy. Telekinesis comes naturally to them, and they tend to have runes tattooed onto their bodies. Many come to them for their ability to tell fortunes.🌑 Foul: Foul magic goes by many names; dark magic, shadow magic, and so forth. Foul magic is unique in that a witch from any school may practice it. However, it is looked down upon to do so, and for good reason. Foul witches dabble in curses. Whether this is for personal gain or to harm others, they can bend the wills of others and alter fates. This magic is extremely dangerous, as a failed curse is more devastating than a successful one. Witches who practice this magic run the risk of corrupting themselves spiritually and, in rare cases, physically. A foul witch is a witch who has lost their connection to their former school, and thus, their title as well. In a sense, this is akin to being disowned. All a foul witch knows is malice. Hexes come naturally to them.


All Witches:
All witches can practice certain basic spells and benefit from certain reagents.
All witches have a connection to the moon; a witch's power is always stronger at night, though this isn't to say that it's gone by morning.
All witches may use levitation in moderation, ride brooms, bond with a familiar, and of course, seek the companionship of monsters.
A witch who is skilled enough may find work arounds for the limitations of magic schools. For example, an arcana witch may be able to create fire like a terra witch by altering the energy around them.
Sometimes, witches may even combine their abilities. A plant witch and a terra witch can work together to create harvests bountiful enough to feed an entire village for months in the blink of an eye.
Sometimes, a witch may find themselves with strange abilities that don't fall in line with their school of magic, and there just isn't a true explanation for it.
Magic can be fickle, and transcends the expected.
As magic is a coming together of the witch's soul and the world around them, it knows when the time is right for something mysterious and never seen before.

🌗 Appearances ------------------------

Monsters may come in all shapes and sizes, and of course, backgrounds.
As almost all human tales derive from the presence of monsters in early history, a monster might resemble creatures from early history.
This can mean a monster may be what we deem a "cryptid" or even a beast from ancient mythology.
This may mean that you can find a jackalope and a gorgon in the same room together. To humans this might be strange, but not to monsters!
Some monsters have a more "unique" appearance, not resembling any sort of creature from ancient texts. This may be the result of long family trees shared by different types of monsters, but who's to say for sure!
Not all monsters are anthropomorphic or can speak.
For example, unicorns are highly intelligent creatures, but perhaps not the best at mathematics or walking on two legs. This varies a lot, however!

------------------------------ Attire 🌓

The attire monsters may wear can widely vary depending on a vast sea of factors.
Some monsters have no need for attire, and may only wear accessories if anything at all. Others might prefer to adorn themselves in quality fabrics and fancy embellishments.
It all depends on the craftsmanship available to them and the practicality.
Typically, monsters wear simpler clothing with hand-stitching, as monsters do not have sewing machines! Unlike humans, many monsters do not prioritize how lavish their clothing looks, nor do they care for graphics or other fancy additions to what they wear.
For monsters in Halfmoon Hollow though, human tastes tend to rub off on their monster friends. Thus, monsters living in Halfmoon tend to have more "familiar" fashion choices, courtesy of Willow.

🌗 Mannerisms -------------------------

Monsters of different kinds and locations have wildly different mannerisms.
Some monsters are much more gentle, while others can be brutal in the way they interact with the world around them.
Some monsters have even been historically known to prey on humans, such as vampires.
Many monsters enjoy to give unknowing humans a good fright, as it is a classic tradition. This does not always come from a place of spite, though!
Meanwhile, other monsters may be more skittish around humans, and will do anything to avoid being spotted.
Most monsters agree on one thing: Don't get too close!

------------------------- Technology 🌓

Monsters are not as technologically advances as humans, but this does not make them primitive!
Monsters can sew, use stoves, utilize tools, create water systems, and much more without the use of electronics or fancy machines.
Most monsters have an understanding of technology that would be adjacent to the Middle Ages. Although they don't have internet, they can wear glasses and build complex structures.
Monsters that hide amidst humans would, of course, have a more intimate knowledge on more recent technological advancements, but may still have their 'quirks' when it comes to actually using them.
Monsters in Halfmoon Hollow, with the help of its human residents, have been able to bring a bit more technology to the town than what is average for other monsters. They do this by rerouting power from other human cities, as well as simply bringing back different pieces of technology.Most monsters in the world could not fathom how a cellphone works without using magic.

🌗 Settlements -------------------------

There are many places in which monsters call home.
The locations, appearance, and type of home all comes down to the type of monster, as well as their own personal preferences!
Some groups of monsters tend to stick to their own kinds; it isn't uncommon for werewolves to travel in a pack, or a family of a family of fae to coalesce in the same patch of woodland.
Their willingness to invite in outsiders entirely depends on their individual philosophies.
Other monsters may live in small colonies in which different types of monsters reside. Usually, these colonies are extremely old, from times where monsters were more likely to travel and mingle with one another. These are a bit less common in modern days, but monsters are hard to come by in general.
